Both the 500kV and 345kV yards utilized breaker-and-a-half bus configurations. Robinson Summit Substation required approximately 90 acres of land.

Robinson Summit Substation was a new 525/345kV substation located approximately 18 miles northwest of Ely, Nevada. The ultimate station design included seven 500kV line terminations, five 345kV line terminations, provisions for 500kV and 345kV static VAR compensators (SVC), series and shunt compensation on line terminations, two 500kV shunt capacitor banks, three 345kV phase shifting transformers and two 525MVA 525-345kV autotransformers.
