Rancho SECO Switchyard

Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) brought in Wilson crews to expand the existing six-bay Rancho SECO Switchyard. The project scope included the construction of two additional 230kV bays, which were built to accommodate the new 230kV solar plant transmission line.

Wilson's work was conducted outside the control house. Site development included the installation of drainage, a grounding grid, all foundations, steel structures, bus work, cable trench, power and control cables, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, instrument transformers, shield wires, a shield mast, ADSS fiber cable, perimeter fence and gates, and switchyard security.

Despite a 45-day delayed start to the project, which occurred outside of Wilson’s control, Wilson crews were able to complete the project on time, within budget, and without incident.
